CanPowerskate is a high energy, skill based powerskating course geared towards minor hockey players of all ages. The program exposes players to the fundamentals of balance, agility, and stride, with 6 level progressions. All material is taught to apply to game-like situations, and each session covers new movements and skills.
CanPowerskate is the only nationally recognized powerskating program offered in Canada, and only CanPowerskate and Skate Canada recognized instructors are qualified to coach the program.
Initiation/Novice/Atom: Currently ending the minor hockey season playing in the Initiation/Novice age group. Can skate the full length of the ice forward, and are able to balance starting backwards with a few strides. Will be focusing on standard skill set needed to progress to higher levels of play (forward stride/backwards stride/intro to crossovers both directions, pivots if applicable)
Atom/Pee-Wee/Bantam/Midget House: Open to both rep/house PeeWee/Bantam players, and only Midget house players. Will reiterate key elements of the basic skill set first session, and will move on to more advanced movements in the next 3 sessions. (pivots, v starts/backwards starts and first 3-step quickness, lateral movements forward/backwards). There will be a heavy emphasis on stride length and proper form throughout the sessions.
Full hockey gear is required.
